Polygonal Ridges in Gordii Dorsum

This image from the Gordii Dorsum region of Mars shows a large area covered with polygonal ridges in an almost geometric pattern.

The ridges may have originally been dunes which hardened (indurated) through the action of an unknown process. Groundwater might have been involved.

Notes: Gordii Dorsum is a long peninsula of raised land that juts out of the southern highlands into Amazonis Planitia; it is located to the southwest of the Tharsis bulge and Olympus Mons. This particular image is located near the northeastern tip of Gordii Dorsum.
